The Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse held a Gathering of Native Americans (GONA) training on Suicide Prevention and Early Intervention this week from Monday, Septermber 10 through Thursday, September 13, 2012 at the Hyatt Regency, Guam. Senator Dennis Rodriguez, Jr. took part in the event by delivering welcoming remarks and presenting a Legislative Resolution to DMHSA and to all its partners. Senator Rodriguez also presented Legislative Certificates to the presenters, Gayle Osborn, Barbara Aragon, and Josephine Keefe during the GONA training.

"The Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Prevention and Training Branch have been doing various work and efforts in assisting our island community as well as reaching out to resources nationally and internationally to help the needs of our people. I continually pledge my full support to the initiatives and efforts this program pursues as it has always been beneficial to our island. I extend my heartfelt Un Dangkolo Na Si Yu'us Ma'ase, thank you, to the two visiting presenters, Barbara Aragon and Josephine Keefe, who have shared their experiences and knowledge in coping with the issues of suicide in their cultures and applying it to Guam during the four day training, as well as to the DMHSA Prevention and Training Branch," stated Senator Rodriguez.

In a letter to the Director of the Department of Administration today, Senator Rodriguez inquired about the MLR rebates due to Gov Guam Employees. The three questions asked by the senator were:

  1. What methodology / formula has been developed and will be utilized to determine the appropriate percentage of the rebate respectively due to the plan subscriber (employee) and the government (employer)?
  2. Will the employee directly receive a rebate in cash (check), or will the rebate be applied towards lowering premiums or plan coverage, as is allowed by the Affordable Care Act?
  3. And, if the employee is to directly receive the rebate, the anticipated date for distribution.
